Update 2015

We took a quick trip to Station W as our second visit on the 2015 Indie Coffee Passport. I ordered a small cappuccino, which was excellently poured. For the espresso, the barista used San Sebastian de Poniente, a Columbian coffee from Kittel Coffee Roasters. I was very pleased when I actually tasted the flavors of grapefruit and chocolate, notes that the barista had mentioned when she had described the coffee.

My cappuccino

A delightful and very tasty Station W cappuccino.

In my opinion, Station W maintains its status as the best café along Promenade Wellington. The staff is always courteous. The food offerings continue to be interesting, varied, and tasty. The baristas pour consistently good coffees. And the space is well laid out, with options for sitting alone or with friends. Station W is a real treasure for coffee lovers in Verdun!

2014 Review

I don’t think there are enough adjectives to describe how wonderful Station W is! This Verdun café opened last year and I was thrilled when it did. The place is clean, full of light, and roomy.

Station W serves coffee from Le Brûloir, which is a local coffee roaster. I often order a decaf latte and I can truly say it is one of the best decaf lattes I have had. As this café has grown in popularity, the lattes have improved in taste, balance, appearance, and consistency.

In addition to serving wonderful coffee, Simon, one of the owners makes wonderful brownies, date squares, chocolate mousse (which is to die for!), salads, soups, and, of course, truly delicious and decadently delightful grilled cheese sandwiches. The grilled cheese sandwiches are so good, I just can’t choose one favorite.

  • Coffee: When we visited this time, I had a regular latte and you can see in the photo how beautifully it was poured (my latte is the one on the left in the photo above). The coffee taste was stronger than I like but that has more to do with the coffee roast than the way the barista poured it. There was a good balance between coffee and milk. The foam lasted to the last sip of coffee. All I was missing was a spoon to get every last bit of the foam.
  • Seating: One of the premium features of Station W is the amount of seating—from bar seating at the windows to coffee table seating to free standing tables to the large community table. And now there is even a terrace! Sitting outside is fun as it gets you out onto Promenade Wellington. During the summer, though, the terrace may be more inviting if there are umbrellas or some kind of shade.
  • Atmosphere: Station W is a great place to go for a quick meal, to enjoy a coffee with friends, to work on your computer, or to enjoy a good book. All of the staff are friendly, courteous, and helpful. You truly feel like you are being warmly welcomed into someone’s home.

Final thoughts: Station W is a great addition to the Montréal coffee culture, and I find their lattes the best in Verdun!

Lovely lattes that couldn’t wait for a photo!
