What she thought
During the recent unsettled weather, we decided to check out Le Café Bloom. Situated on the corner of Centre and Jardin Streets, the café is in a charming Victorian-style building and has been open in Pointe Saint-Charles since March 2013. In addition to their café menu, Le Café Bloom offers a unique menu, using fresh, local, and organic (when possible) ingredients. They feature a brunch menu on the weekends.
- Coffee: I ordered a latte. . .of course. The “Mélange Bloom” coffee consists of 100% Arabica organic and fair trade beans blended and roasted especially for Le Café Bloom at Le Brûloir in Montréal. The latte I was served had foam that was a bit thick—I had to get through the foam to taste the coffee, much like you do with beer. The taste of the coffee itself was rich, flavorful, and extremely enjoyable to drink. With the thicker foam, I was left with at least two spoonfuls of mousse/crema mix at the bottom of my cup.
- Seating: The café boasts a large seating area with several tables with chairs as well as some stools at the bar where you order. The café also accommodates children by providing some chairs just their size. No terrace to speak of, but outside on the sidewalk, there is one small table with a couple of chairs. The only natural light is limited to the storefront windows, but there is well-spaced track lighting that enables adequate illumination for reading or working on a computer.
- Atmosphere: The girl who served us was pleasant and courteous, answering all of the questions we asked. The atmosphere was somewhat disturbing when we were there, though. Two different CDs were playing at the same time: one in the café and the other in the open kitchen that is along the back of the place. This “battle of the bands” affected my concentration and made reading difficult.
Final Thoughts: Le Café Bloom serves up a roomy space where you can enjoy a traditional latte, engross yourself in a good book, engage in computer work, or enjoy an interesting meal with friends.
